Silver Bayonet: Goblins

With my Prussians ready to see some action it was time to get some of the many creatures of the Gothic-Horror game ready for play.  I have just about all the models made for waves 1&2 of the Silver Bayonet line, but I am determined to get all of wave 1 finished before I start working on the second.  Up first I decided to tackle some of the best dressed goblins on the market.  How can you beat a goblin wearing a tricorn?

Once again, I looked to the box art to get some inspiration for the models.  I liked the skin tones used by Northstar and wanted to do something similar.  Most certainly not the typical green goblin color. I remembered that long ago I had picked up the paint Hobgrot Hide from GW and I had yet to try it out.  It’s an odd paint as it was released without any complimentary colors, so I wasn’t sure how to use.  When in doubt, copy someone with talent! I delved online to try and find some inspiration and once again I found some from Mengel Miniatures

The paint scheme worked out very well even though I didn’t do it as well as Mr. Mengel.  I like this color scheme so much I may do it again in the future with my Blood Bowl Ogre Snotlings/Gnoblars. If I thought the Prussians painted up quick, then a smaller group of half-sized models went even quicker.  No complaints from me!

Once again, I have to tip my hat to North Star for putting together some great models.  These little guys remind me of the goblins in the Harry Potter movies with a bit of a rougher ‘stab you in the face’ edge to them. I opted for the red jacket on the one because I had a Napoleonic paint collection, and I wanted to try out the British uniform.

There you have it.  A couple of days of light work and my first monster group is finished.  Now, I will admit that the way North Star models are sold and how they are used in the game is a bit weird.  This group was sold as five but according to people online I need six to play competitive and eight for solo play.  Thats a bit disheartening as I don’t want duplicate models, nor do I want to buy another five when I only need three. For the record this is the chart I’m following for all these numbers:

This is a concern for a game that I’ve yet to play so who knows if I am even wasting my time worrying about it.  When all said and done, I have five nicely painted models finished and that’s what is important.  Moving forward I still have plenty more models to get painted.  As I wrap this up here is a sneak peek at some future work.  Take care!

A final shout out to Jeff for sending me the trees I used in the background pictures. Thanks again!

  1. Another great group of SB models. Well done, James. I think the skin color looks fantastic.

For that 6th model, maybe use some small creature…kinda like their hunting dog or something. Or, maybe find some other single goblin model that might fit (even if appearing less well dressed!)
