The steady stream of new Blood Bowl… I mean “Fantasy Football” miniatures continues, with independent teams starting crowd funding campaigns or pre-orders almost weekly. This week is no different. The newest team to become available for pre-order comes to us from Sukubus Studio in the form of their all female Vampire team.
Sukubus specializes in all female versions of Blood Bowl teams, with the lone exception being the Witch Elves on their Dark Elf team. Those are actually male, which I personally found to be a clever interpretation of the team.
Sukubus is a relatively new company with only three other teams released so far, comprising of their Witches team (Dark Elves), Valkyries team (Norse), and their namesake Sukubus team (Khorne, I believe). Their miniatures are all highly detailed, 32mm, and cast in resin.
The current pre-order for their new Vampire team includes eighteen miniatures, all with unique sculpts (woot!). The team comes with:
- 5 Vampires
- 11 Thralls
- 2 Star Players
- 6 “Hypnotic Eyes” (Hypnotic Gaze) counters
- 1 “Vampire counter” (Bloodlust)
- Vampire dice
The pre-order will continue until September 3rd, and is available during that period for €69.00. The may sound pricey for those used to the current Games Workshop $35.00 teams of plastic miniatures, but for 18 unique resin minis… €69.00 is a downright bargain.
Let’s take a closer look at the minis. That’s what you’re here for, right?
Delivery date details are a little vague. They only mention that it should take a few months, but if that makes you nervous, you might be comforted by that fact that so far, Sukubus has a solid reputation in the larger Blood Bowl community. I have been following them for a while and haven’t read any negative comments about them yet.
Now, I know that some people have a problem with “sexy” female Blood Bowl minis, but honestly, I’m not one of those people. I like boobs… There, I said it. Neener, neener! Having said all that, if that sort of thing bothers you then you’ll be happy to know that the Sukubus Vampire team really isn’t all that “sexy.” The Vampires are showing a bit of cleavage, but nothing too over the top, and the Thralls are all fairly well covered. If you want to see closeup pictures of the individual minis, you can check them out here.
There are no current extras available for the team, but Laia explained to me that the Vampire team pre-order is already setup as a crowdfunding campaign with all the extras already unlocked. With eighteen minis, counters, and dice available from day one, I can understand why there won’t be more extras coming.
I really don’t need another Vampire team, especially since I JUST got the shipping confirmation email from Games Workshop for my Made to Order Vampire team today, but I really like the look of these minis. I think I will have to sell off some other teams, or maybe full games in order to make room (and money) available for at least one more female team. I do have to admit that from a painting standpoint, I’m a little intimidated by all those details (and there are a LOT of them), but I’m sure that those of you with better painting skills than me will be foaming at the mouth to get a hold of these.
Some additional background on Sukubus:
Sukubus minis are designed by Laia L. Tubau. Laia and Sukubus partner Ian develop ideas for their teams together, and after after discussing the overall look of the minis, they start with designing the uniforms. Once they get the look of the uniforms solidified, then they start working on the poses of the minis. Once the poses are worked out, the miniature designs start to fall into place.
What do you think of Sukubus Studio’s new Vampire team?
I really like these. May have to check them out

They do look really nice. Once they are available, we just might be posting an unboxing/review of the team. 🙂

69 euro for a full team with counters is a good price. I’m a Willy Miniatures vampire team fan, but for the price this is impressive.

I would be very interested in a unboxing/review of these.
Been looking for a good looking vampire team for a long time and this might well be it. They have a great look, with the proper amount of cheescake giving some spice, but mostly serious looking athletes.
I’m a bit put off by the vague delivery times and no pictures of actual models, but if I can see a review, and the models match the renders, I’ll probably be over this team like white on rice 🙂

I definitely understand your hesitation. Having said that, Sukubus does have a good reputation in the community, so I would say the risk with them is pretty minimal. They have told us we will be getting a review copy of the team, so as soon as I have it, I will write a review. Be sure to check back! 🙂

I’ll keep a look out for that review. 🙂

I’m in the camp of not liking sexy minis, but I’m surprised that I really like the thralls! They could have gone really cheesecake on them, but they didn’t I think they’re really great! I think they could even work as female marauders for chaos renegade teams.

These minis definitely aren’t over sexualized. You might want to stay away from their Sukubus team, though. You don’t want your daughter seeing the free swinging demon boobs. 🙂

I like that they use elements of the GW Vampires team design. I think most people really like the old GW Vamp models.
I know it’s totally against Sukubus’s plan, but I do wish they had included male vampire models (and vice versa with GW’s minis).
Having said all that, Vamps are likely last on my ‘teams to acquire’ list. They aren’t a very popular team, because of the Blood Lust trait. I don’t know if they will ever figure out a better balancing trait later on, but it does put a damper on things.

It’s funny, I never really was all that interested in Vampires until I painted a team for Both Down Podcast Steve last year. After that, I kind of liked them. Then when they were added to the last round of GW’s Made to Order program, I got suckered in… then I saw the artwork for these minis, and got suckered in even more. After speaking with Ian and Laia, I can say that they seem to be really nice and passionate about the game, which I liked. I’m looking forward to getting the minis in hand.

That’s usually how it goes with minis. Paint them up or get ahold of a really nice looking team, and you just have to play them!
