Blitz Bowl: Skaven Team (and College of Shadow DB team!)

I’ve had these models assembled and primed for close to three years now..or whenever it was when the first edition of Blitz Bowl came out. The long delay in getting ’em painted was because they looked a chore to paint, and I wasn’t sure what color scheme I’d go with. Turns out they were pretty easy.

They aren’t my best paint job, but my old stand-bys Abaddon Black and Eshin Grey game through and with a simple wash of Sepia over Kislev skin, I made quick work of these models.

The team is very fast on the Blitz Bowl pitch with MV 7 on all the players, but the Gutter Runner flying down the field with a MV of 9. Unfortunately, they lost their first match, but I don’t think I played them to their strength. I forced plays down the middle and didn’t stretch my opponent out over the sewer pitch Under Nuln. I think I might enjoy playing this team more than my beloved Nurgle…another team I lose with. ha!

Regarding the color choice… I choose those dark colors, with a pink feature, to match the Dark Elf Blitz Bowl team I previously painted so they could combine into a College of Shadow Dungeon Bowl team. Since they were quick to paint I also did up an extra Skaven Blitzer and Gutter Runner so I could have a full squad of 16 for DB.

I’ve still got the Skaven Blood Bowl proper team to do, and crazy that I am, I’m gonna do them in different colors.

  1. It’s fun to paint a quick squad with a color pop like that. I’ve fancied making different teams, what with having left over players on the sprue. But I have yet to make a second team of the same race yet.

    • if using straight black, I recommend a color called Smoke Black from the AK line. I didn’t use it on these skaven models, because I wanted them to match the citadel black I already applied to the dark elves, but Smoke Black is fantastic. It takes a Nuln Oil wash really well.
