Blood Bowl: The Wizards

In my games of DungeonBowl, I’ve pretty much made it the norm for each team to have a College Wizard for free. They’re all the same cost, at 100K, so it balances out. Plus, it helps further separate DB from BB proper with each team having a Wizard-Coach. I picked up the Collegiate Arcane – Mystic Battle Wizards box as it comes with enough bits to make four wizard models of multiple college types.

I tried to include a little BB flare to the wizard models to help them integrate into the setting a little more. When possible, I tried to have that flare represent the single spell the wizard can cast in the game. The College of Fire model above has a burning football, I think from the Chaos Chosen sprue. This wizard can cast “Fireball” once a match, so why not have that fireball be a little football on fire that flies into the dungeon when cast?

The next wizard here is for the College of Metal. He can cast “Transmutation”. Effectively making the armour of an opponent unbearably heavy. I didn’t have a full opponent to fit on the base, nor would I expect the Wizard-Coach to stand so close to one, so I included a spare set of BB armour that’s been “transmutated”.

The College of Shadow’s spell, “Shadow Step” allows you to essentially teleport one of your players up to five squares from their starting spot prior to any activation. This one was a bit of a stretch, but maybe this Wizard-Coach’s version of the spell manifests kinda like a ninja smoke bomb or something. Smoke, like from that vial, appears and the player quickly moves. Eh, that works for me.

The fourth wizard from that box became a Coach for my human team, or generic Blood Bowl wizard when needed. I didn’t have a coach for this team and needed something in a pinch. For the BB flair, I went old school with a familiar oddity. I had a few of those small, metal familiars so chopped one off, I think it was a wooden marionnette thing, at the waste at added the football to the top. What does this represent in play, or why would this wizard have such a creature. No idea! I just liked the way it looked. Ha!

Unfortunately, as of last post, I know have four Dungeon Bowl teams with the College of Death. I assembled the above four wizards long ago… almost a year ago. At the time, I only thought I’d have the three teams. Now, I’ve got to source a College of Death Wizard-Coach.

    • Thanks! I think these were originally called “Collegiate Wizards” or something back under the Old World Warhammer. As soon as I realized I enjoyed DungeonBowl, I knew I wanted to incorporate some of these models into my games.

  1. Those wizards look great and I love the thought you put into each one. It sounds like their spells add something special for each team. Also, I would have never guessed that they were not part of the boxed set, they fit seamlessly!

    • Thanks! Yeah, the DungeonBowl book has a one-time spell that each wizard can cast. I like to just go ahead and give each player one of these wizards as a wizard-coach. Adds to the zaniness of DungeonBowl.
