Nuffle Amorical Football: The Miasma of Debauchery Part 2

With the color scheme decided, it was time to get this team up and running.  I decided to go with the typical plan of working through lineman, specialty players, and finish up with stars and staff.  I understand the usefulness of batch-painting, but I have a hard time spreading myself over more than five to six models at a time.  I get excited when a model goes from the ugly patchy phase of having base coats to the when it starts coming together, and batch painting large groups keeps models in that ugly phase for a long time.  Did I also mention it’s really boring?  My brain likes to see progress, so my batch groups stayed small.

The beastmen painted relatively quickly due to them having little in the way of clothing.  The beastmen have a limited amount of hair which I started painting ‘normal’ colors until I had used them all up.  After that I switched to some garish colors as I figured a Slaanesh worshiping team would be all about being seen.  One enjoyable moment was when of the models fell off my holding paint pot and fell directly into my open wet pallet.  This was my first-time painting metal models and the weight of them was too much for my poster tack.  Thankfully, the model only got paint on its shoulder pads instead of the airbrushed skin.  The variety on this team is awesome.  Even with duplicated bodies there is enough head variety to make the team unique.  Speaking of heads, this team has a great variety of horns if you are into that kind of thing.  Here they all are finished up:

During one of my recent moves my player in the 3-point stance decided to visit one of the cheerleaders in my travel case.  Metal on metal miniatures mean both took a bit of a beating.  I really need to work on a better travel solution!

The Chaos Chosen Blockers offered much more armor than the beastmen.  I originally thought about having them have white armor pants to have them like the typical Dolphins uniform, but it didn’t look good.  I opted to go all over with my ‘I swear it’s green blue’ color all over and have their tabards be white.   The beastmen I was able to the uniform stripes on their shorts/speedos without any problems.  I wasn’t comfortable with doing a long freehand stripe down the length of the tabard and doing a horizontal one wouldn’t fit with the other vertical lines on the beastmen.  Instead, I opted to keep them just plain white and the pinstripes on the helmets would be sufficient.  Of all the models on the team one of the warriors had a bit of a miscast on its non-mutated arm so he got a free claw upgrade.

With so few Blockers I added the two star players to the batch.  The chainsaw model is probably one of my favorites on the team.  If I could go back, I would probably paint the chainsaw more industrial instead of team colored.  For the Lewdgrip model I orignally did a dark green tentacle but that made the model look more tzeentch than Slaanesh.  I played around with some washes to blend the pink tentacle into the body which I think worked well.

The minotaur is also another standout design.  It’s sleek and minimal design was a joy to paint.  I had the option to go with a tentacle arm, claw arm, and an option to add a prehensile tail.  I came close to adding the tail but opted to keep him simple.  He did get a claw arm as that is a very common mutation and it’s not so noticeable that most people wouldn’t notice it was an upgrade arm.

With my energy on this project running out of steam, I opted to try and speed up my Coach and cheerleader by going with a slap-chop attempt.  This was my first go around with this and my results were fair.  I airbrushed the zenithal instead of drybrushing it.  While quick, my white paint wasn’t the best for the airbrush and there is some noticeable gradation on the white.

I used just GW purple wash for the skin and keeping it thin I was able to get a good result.  The claws on the cheerladers got additional coats to darken them up.  Now the tentacle pom-poms looked like I nightmare to paint with all their detail and I was frankly too tired to want to pick out individual tenacle suckers, so I just hit them with an orange speed paint.

The coach model is from GoblinGuild miniatures.  He is metal and his cape and horns are sperate pieces.  The horns connected fine, but the cape was a bit sketchy.  I wish the scar on his chest had been a bit more pronounced but overall, I like the model a lot.

The Necronomicon book is a nice touch on the coach.  It must have some pretty heretical plays in that book!  I was going to shoot for a stretch goal of a beastman referee model, but it will have to wait for a future project due to some horrific mold slippage that needed to be cleaned up.

And that is a wrap… for now.  I am tempted to add more options for the big guys.  With Chosen teams now able to go with trolls and ogres the gears in my mind are spinning.  I need to start on a new project though instead of worrying about fiddling with one that is already done.  Heck, I have two more Chosen teams that I have yet to paint if I really want to paint more of them.  I am left a good number of mutation arms from the beastmen and even some two head mutations for beastmen.  If you think you need any of those mutations shoot me message and I’ll pass them along.

Up next I’ll be going back to the AFC North Division to finish it out.  I have the following projects setup;

Pittsburg Steelers – Dwarf (of course)

Cincinnati Bengals – Ogre

Baltimore Ravens – Norse

More on these in the future!
