Xenos Rampant: The Bandits

“For the good old American life: For the money, for the glory, and for the fun… mostly for the money.”

The last gang I have to paint models up for are The Bandits. I was calling them “The Rockers” or “The Smugglers” earlier, but we’ll go with The Bandits for now.

Xenos Rampant: The Punks

“You think this is a f’n’ costume? This is a way of life.” – Suicide, Return of the Living Dead.

For this gang, I was thinking that maybe I’d have each model be unique in their own colors, but…nah. Unified gang colors make the models easier to paint. Plus, as they could be a unit in Xenos Rampant, probably Berzerk Infantry, I want them to have a unified aesthetic that’s better for gameplay. Besides, anyone who’s spent any time in and around punk circles has probably seen the irony in there being a bit of conformity.

Xenos Rampant: The Ninja

Almost two and a half years ago, I created a few ninja vehicles for Gaslands. At the same time, I put together some foot models to go along with those rides, but I never got around to needing them. Well, since then Xenos Rampant has come out, and we’ve started developing some light house rules for pedestrian models in Gaslands. The time was right to get some ninja on-foot models ready for Roswell ’98.

Gaslands: The Punks

Punks are a staple of Post Apocalyptic gaming, but it took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with them in my Roswell ’98 setting. I originally planned to just use army greens like the Maniax as a tribute to the Dark Future gang. Ultimately, I opted to employ some inspiration from them, but not copy that gang outright.

Roswell ’98: The New Traditionalists

The last gang to cruise the wasted waves of Roswell are The Scientists. I went back and forth the most with this gang on what I could do to have them ride apart from the others. Originally, I was going to go with trucks and hitches to haul UFO artifacts. It ended up looking a little too much like a gang of bootleggers or something. When it dawned on me that a van was a vehicle I hadn’t used yet, the gang materialized.

Roswell ’98: Full Leather Jacket

My last Roswell post featured the cyber ninja Gaslands vehicles. Usually, I like to follow up a vehicle post with the post on the same gang’s foot models to use with Zona Alfa. My son and friends saw my car collection and want to try some Gaslands soon, so I’m going to shift gears and wrap up the vehicles for a few more gangs, then go back to the foot models. Here’s the fifth gang, The Independents.

Roswell ’98: Ride of the Ninja

In the early part of 2021, I went on a bit of a ninja kick. I re-immersed myself in Cannon Film’s 80s Ninja movies and played through all three of the Genesis Shinobi series titles. As a child of the 80s, ninja had a hold on the media I consumed: GI Joe, NES Ninja Gaiden, TMNT, American Ninja, SNES Ninja Warriors, etc., so I guess it was a bit of a nostalgic venture. With Roswell ’98 being a creative outlet for these sort of genre tales that inspire me, it was only a matter of time before ninja would step out of the shadows.
