Continue readingIn the halcyon days of summer 2017, the Wyrd Stones and Tackle Zones crew reunited for a gaming weekend in Austin, TX. One of the top-billed games we played was Games Workshop’s classic Man O’ War. We had a blast and I’ve been looking for a way to get that same gaming experience ever since. In late 2020, Mantic Games released Armada, a naval combat game set in their Kings of War universe. Some local gaming buddies jumped on the bandwagon and I took the plunge too.
Continue readingOnce again I decided to reinvigorate some life into my Mordheim collection and selected my Beastman Warband to leave the Empire in Flames of the world that was, and to join the new hotness of Warcry! Continue reading
You’ll have seen these minis before if you’re a dedicated reader, but while I was taking photos of some other minis, I decided to take pics of these too since they share the same storage box. I wouldn’t have made a new blog post either, but I needed a new place to host the photos since my links on the Lead Adventure Forum broke. My friends and I are gearing up for a Dracula’s America campaign this summer once everyone has received the coronavirus vaccine, so the timing for new pics is topical as well. Click below for more pics.
Continue readingYes, my headline is trying to avoid a cease and desist from litigation-happy lawyers from big toy companies. Bot War by Australian indie company Traders Galaxy is a game I’ve had my eye on for a year or so. I no longer remember where I first set eyes on this game, but the 1980s not-Transformers aesthetic immediately hooked me. The game and minis series is heavily inspired by the action cartoons of the 1980s all mashed up together. There’s references to Transformers, GI Joe, Dino-Riders, M.A.S.K. and more. The creator of the game has clearly had a lot of fun creating his own world by throwing all these influences together and letting them stew. After watching the game from afar for months, I saw a friend of mine join the Bot War Facebook community and I knew this was actually going to happen and we bought into the game.
Continue readingLogic would suggest that a person should start with the basics of a game before they start adding extras into the mix. Being a less than speedy painter I can never keep up with the Games Workshop production line of new products. This typically results in me having making a hodgepodge collection as I move in and out of the collection stream. This time around instead of starting with the core released box set of the game I have instead gone with roaming beasts that are not even part of the core rules.
The first gang has arrived in the badlands of Roswell and of course, it’s the law….or is it?
Continue readingAs with Mr. White, I am never content to have a project be finished. Although I’m not 100% on the newer rules for terrain in Underworlds, for the core boards in Shadespire there are some blocking terrain pieces. While not required I feel that having just some border lines on the hexes is enough to truly represent the terrain. I’m not the only one thinking that because there are people out there making terrain purposely made for the boards. Continue reading
I have been a fan of the models produced for Shadespire since they where first released. While I will always prefer multi-pose models over single pose, credit must be given to Games Workshop with the quality of their plastic models. They are clearly years ahead of their competitors and I personally believe that their line of Shadespire and the follow on edition models are some of the best. While the idea of a quasi-collectable card game is not normally in my wheelhouse, I just couldn’t resist the temptation of the models to give them a try. Using my new airbrush toy, the Eyes of the Nine where the first to go for a full spin. Continue reading
