Silver Bayonet: Bavarians

Initially, I wasn’t too interested in the Silver Bayonet, but I recently met some local gamers who were getting into it pretty heavily, so I figured why not do up a little unit and join in? Using the Victrix Bavarian models (with the Austrian unit list) I wanted the unit to have more of napoleonic army special unit look. The official models look more like generic gothic warband to me.

Under the Brush: Blood Bowl Dark Elves

I had a plan to write a year-end review of 2020 with all the projects I finished, I even started writing a lengthy post about it that I meant to finish … but here we are in mid-February and I didn’t finish. Part of that delay was mustering the willpower to haul out the lightbox and take some shiny pics of my minis which I didn’t manage to do until last night. Instead of a 2020 review post, I’m going to give each project it’s own post. Because they deserve it! These will not be posted by in any kind 2020 sequential order. First up, the dark elves!

Under the Brush: Cleavedhead Barrows pt. 6 – Penalty Flag on the Final Drive!

ClevelandBrownsElf

So despite how it seems I actually did ‘finish’ this project the month after my last update. ‘Finishing’ this project actually started the beginning of a very productive time that saw me shy away from posting in favor of feverishly working on hobby projects like a mad scientist.  That lasted until the world ended in 2020 and now I’m a year behind schedule on getting updates published.  Anyhow, enough of my rambling and on to the near end of this never ending project!

Homemade Star Players: Harry Badsaw

Greenskins_Wurrzag

I haven’t regularly used Star Players in league or tournament play in a very long time.  Back in the original 3rd edition rules Star Players where much cheaper than they currently are so it was quite common to see them in play.  When I attended the first Blood Bowl Tournament at GW Nottingham it was a staple to see all the big names on just about every team at the tournament.  In fact my Chaos Dwarf team rocked Hthark The Unstoppable through it’s first several tournaments.  I’m pretty sure every Undead team I played against had Count Luthor and every human team had Griff.  They were so cheap it would have been ridiculous not to use them.  A few iterations of rules later and taking those guys now is a huge commitment so its rare to see such big names on the field.  Some tournaments though have adopted homemade heroes which has given me the opportunity to create some of my own Blood Bowl Stars.  Continue reading

Celebrating Blood Bowl Through Blitz Bowl

Anyone I know fortunate enough to have a go at GW’s Blood Bowl Universe intro game, Blitz Bowl, has had a grand time. Released only in select markets its availability is limited which is a shame as this is a fantastic refinement of the Blood Bowl concepts by designer James Hewitt. This isn’t a review of the game or its mechanics, there are plenty of those to be found online, but how this limited release title enabled this hobbyist to finally be able to build a little Blood Bowl themed terrain.

Under the Brush: Underworld Denizens

It’s hobby update time! I just realized I hadn’t shared anything about what I’m working on for our June Turn It Up to 11 miniatures painting challenge. Eleven miniatures that need to be painted … that coincidentally aligns with the starting roster for a Blood Bowl team. And it just so happens I’m starting up a new team for our league’s summer season. Some guys in the league were talking about playing goblins and vampires, so I decided to step off the beaten path and go for something a little different for me. Underworld denizens!

Under the Brush: Rethinking some Rivendell conversions

20180602_223637

Last week a package arrived for me full of minis goodness. Ignoring the Spike! Journal, White Dwarfs (White Dwarves) and Shadespire stuff (not completely though, it’s a great game you should try out) you’ll notice Glorfindel and a box of Knights of Rivendell. Finally I have all the parts I need for all the options of a high elves force for Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. Now I just need to put it all together (and paint it) but it has me rethinking my plans a little.

Warhammer Underworlds: Paint it Black

I recently painted the Shadespire Stormcast warband for Mike. He wanted black as a primary color but with plenty of gold trim. Traditionally, I’ve struggled a bit with black, often highlighting with grey or dark blue which cause my models to appear…grey or dark blue. These three models were the start of another chance of getting black down because a black based Blood Bowl team looms on my horizon.
