Well, I am (very) slowly chipping away at my Dwarf team for Diablo Bowl. Diablo Bowl is exactly three weeks from today, and as always… I have pretty much waited until the last minute to paint. As always, my biggest problem is motivation. In case I have not mentioned it lately, I REALLY do not enjoy painting minis, but it has to be done. And since I have already won a couple of trophies at various Blood Bowl tournaments (including last year’s Diablo Bowl), I might as well do the best job I can. The upside is that all the minis that I NEED for this team at the tournament are already done. The minis that I am painting now are pretty much for “wow” factor. And since the best mini painter that I personally know, my friend James, is currently deployed, I might actually stand a chance of bringing home another trophy this year. 🙂

It’s Been A While…
OK, so it has been what… eight months since my last post? Well, I never claimed to be particularly good at this blogging thing.  I can mostly attribute my lack of activity on this site to two things: 1) A general lack of activity in my gaming group. 2) A bit of hobby burnout. Anyway, I am going to see if I can pick things back up a bit, and start posting a little more regularly again.
The lack of group activity is due to real life. One guy moved away, one guy has five kids and is too busy with other things, one guy has had some significant family health issues, one guy is still active military and just got deployed to the Middle East. The burnout basically stems from a marathon painting session at the beginning of the year in an attempt to get three Blood Bowl teams ready for Orclahoma Bowl in March. It looked a little something like this…
More Blood Bowl!
Yeah, I know. It has been quite a while since my last post. What can I say? Life happens…
Anyway, with Nuffleween getting closer, I have been working on painting up a new team for the tournament. I pretty much ALWAYS play bash teams, I decided that I really wanted to try something new this time… And not just a new bash team. I had a bunch of old 3rd edition GW Dark Elf minis, so I decided that it was high time I gave an elf team a try. Once I picked my team, it was time to decide on a color scheme.
Diablo Bowl! Some Ups, Some Downs
Well, my XBBL friends and I made the trip to Dallas for Diablo Bowl yesterday. It was a long, but fun day and we all had some real ups and downs. Jeff, who finished 2nd place at Orclahoma Bowl earlier this year had what was probably his worst tournament ever, and finished the day at the bottom table. James and Dave played their final games at tables 1 and 2, with James taking home 2nd place overall, and I only managed to finish in the middle of the pack with my 1-1-1 final record. The upside is that my Hittsburgh Steelbeards Dwarf team is now a TWO-TIME award winning team.
Blood Bowl Visual Match Report: Undead Vs Humans
So, this will be an experiment. My current Blood Bowl league, the XBBL is really big on fluff and extracurricular activities to really add to the flavor of the game. My only problem is that I am really not very good at fluff, but I have a real appreciation for what it adds to a game. In an effort to contribute something unique, I am going to try what I am affectionately referring to as a visual match report. I took about 50 pictures during last night’s game and this image heavy post will either be a proof of concept, or a spectacular failure. Time to find out which!
Finally! Some Decent Pictures of My Dwarves!
Had a brutally disastrous (for me) game of Mordheim tonight… But the upside is that my friend, James, brought over his nifty light box, so I was able to take a few decent pictures of my AWARD WINNING Dwarf Blood Bowl team, the Hittsburg Steelbeards… Did I mention that they are AWARD WINNING?! 🙂
Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup 2015… The Aftermath
OK, so Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup weekend was two weeks ago and I am just now getting around to posting about how things went. What can I say? It has been a rough two weeks on the personal front. Anyway, this will be a pretty short post, with only a quick overview because way too much happened to remember many specific details.
The Road to Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup UPDATE 2!
Well, thanks to a week in Atlanta for work, getting this Dwarf team finished in time for Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup REALLY came down to the wire. I was starting to get more than a little nervous that I was not going to be able to finish the team in time. Luckily, though, I was worried for nothing because I managed to finished with just a few days to spare. This is probably the last team I will be painting for a little while as I really need a bit of a break. I also really need to finish the final installment of my Mordheim terrain tutorial series. Thirdly, I think it is REALLY time for a hobby desk overhaul. I am in dire need of some major organization, and less crap EVERYWHERE.
The Road to Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup UPDATE!
Quick update today… Just wanted to say seven Dwarves down, ten Longbeards and one Deathroller to go! Of course, I do not REALLY need eighteen minis just for the tournament, but if I am going to paint a team, I might as well paint the TEAM…
The Road to Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup!
OK, so it has only been two weeks since I made the drive up to Oklahoma for Critter Bowl IV, but I have already made plans to return next month for Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup. this is a two day, two tournament Blood Bowl event hosted by Scott and Steve of the Both Down podcast. I had a great time at the last tournament, but Orclahoma Bowl/Spiky Cup is their “premiere” tournament event and so I am going to brave the five and a half hour drive again. At least I will not be going alone this time, as a whole group of coaches from Austin are all piling in together.
