Warhammer Underworlds Terrain: 200 Skulls Too Many

img_3022

As with Mr. White, I am never content to have a project be finished.  Although I’m not 100% on the newer rules for terrain in Underworlds, for the core boards in Shadespire there are some blocking terrain pieces.  While not required I feel that having just some border lines on the hexes is enough to truly represent the terrain.  I’m not the only one thinking that because there are people out there making terrain purposely made for the boards. Shadespire: Eyes of the Nine

I have been a fan of the models produced for Shadespire  since they where first released.  While I will always prefer multi-pose models over single pose, credit must be given to Games Workshop with the quality of their plastic models.  They are clearly years ahead of their competitors and I personally believe that their line of Shadespire and the follow on edition models are some of the best.  While the idea of a quasi-collectable card game is not normally in my wheelhouse, I just couldn’t resist the temptation of the models to give them a try.  Using my new airbrush toy, the Eyes of the Nine where the first to go for a full spin. Warhammer Underworlds: Grand Alliance – Order

I recently knocked out three Order warbands for Warhammer Underworlds. The Farstriders, The Condemnors and The Chosen Axes. All three were a little on hold until I could replenish my green static grass supply. The grass came in, so the minis are done. Just in time to help build a little momentum here at the beginning of the New Year.

The Shade-Crazed Gargant

Collector’s of White Dwarf were treated to a Warhammer: Underworlds variant in the magazine’s December 2018 issue. The Glass-Mad Gargant article introduced a fun multi-player scenario where the players battle not only against one another, but against a crazed denizen of the Mirrored City. I generally try to always ‘play it painted’, so haven’t run the scenario until I could get myself a Gargant. Well, now I have a giant…

August Paint Challenge Results

I’m a little late on sharing the results of our August Paint Challenge, but late is better than never right? This month we decided to paint up some Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire warbands. Jeff and Jason opted to both paint Magore’s Fiends while I painted up my Sepulchral Guard.

Of course Jeff finished first. Jeff continues the iron and blood theme of his bloodskin army for Age of Sigmar. These guys are definitely more iron than blood of course as they are heavily armored. I really admire Jeff’s metallics I feel like they turn out looking so much better than mine.

Next up are my Sepulchral Guard. I opted for an orange and black look for my skeletons. Everybody seems to be doing red on these guys (which looks great!) but I decided to do something a little different.

It’s a little Halloweeny of course, and a bit of an ode to my high school colors, but honestly I never had much school spirit (get it? eh … that joke would work better on the upcoming nighthaunt guys, wouldn’t it?)

And finally, Jason pulled through at the last minute with his take on the Fiends. Jason opted for more of the classic Khorne look and they look fantastic! I especially like the muted colors on the fleshhound. That thing looks ferocious.

Congrats again to everyone completing another paint challenge. Now for this month’s challenge …

September got its name from being the 7th month of the original Roman calendar. January and February were added later making it 9th.

So…the challenge is to declare and paint 7 models. All 7 from the same faction/warband/team/whatever.
BUT…you also have to be ready to reveal 2 painted surprise models unrelated to the other 7 (different warband/army/game/whatnot).
9 models total.
7 stated up front. 2 spoilers.

8 Shocking Things You Didn’t Know About Shadespire!

001-009_WHUW_Shadespire_Rulebook_BG.indd

As a bit of fun, we decided to rank the eight Shadespire warbands strictly based on what we think of the models. This has nothing to do with how these warbands have performed in tournaments or how much we like playing any of them. It’s strictly superficial. Although it is a known fact that painted models play better. True story.

Sorry for the clickbait headline, list articles are the original form of clickbait, so I had to go with it. Tongue in cheek of course.

Warhammer Fest Europe News Roundup Extravaganza!

Yesterday a ton of news dropped at Warhammer Fest Europe, a bit shocking considering how much news has been dropping lately for a variety of Games Workshop games, but it looks like GW was holding plenty of tasty nuggets in reserve for us. James, Jeff and I give our thoughts on the beans that were spilled on yesterday’s Warhammer Community post.

June “Turn It Up To 11” Painting Challenge Results

20180630_032105

As I mentioned in my last Under the Brush post, the challenge for June was to paint 11 miniatures in honor of Jason’s birthday on June 11. Eleven just happens to be the starting number of a Blood Bowl team and I just so happened to be preparing a new team for my league’s summer season, so it was almost as if the stars aligned.

Read on to see our results.

White Dwarf Leak: New boards for Shadespire

FB_IMG_1530158518553

A member of the Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire group on Facebook got his White Dwarf early in the mail and posted this interesting shot of upcoming Shadespire products. We already knew the leader cards pack was coming, but new boards!? The description says the Shattered City Board Pack is “filled with innumerable dangers, from bottomless pits to hidden blades.” The full rules will be included with each board set. It will be interesting to see how players tailor their decks to these new threats on the board.

I took the liberty of cropping in on the boards and blowing the images up a little. Looks like one board has some orbs of glowing light, the other a flaming brazier and some pits?

Also coming are some card sleeves, generic for any warband and includes sleeves for power and objective cards. I’m guessing those have different art on the back. Can’t wait to hear more about these new boards.
