2023 in Review

2023 was a banner year for me regarding number of models painted and projects done. Going into the year I had no intention of painting a Black Orc Blood Bowl team, but I already had 10 models for one previously painted (six goblins and a troll from the Goblin BzB team and three black orcs from the Black Orc BzB team). Painting three Black Orcs was low hanging fruit to get another full BB team option in my locker-room. What else did I knock out this year? Read on for the numbers.

Blood Bowl: The Wizards

In my games of DungeonBowl, I’ve pretty much made it the norm for each team to have a College Wizard for free. They’re all the same cost, at 100K, so it balances out. Plus, it helps further separate DB from BB proper with each team having a Wizard-Coach. I picked up the Collegiate Arcane – Mystic Battle Wizards box as it comes with enough bits to make four wizard models of multiple college types.

Blood Bowl: The Undead

I meant to get this post out at the end of October, but became pre-occupied. Last October, in celebration of “Orktober” I painted up several flavors of green-skin models to make teams for a few different Blood Bowl titles. This year, I did something similar, but for Undead. Maybe a bit more fitting for October.

Dungeon Bowl: Dressing

One of my goals for 2023 is to paint up all the dungeon dressing for the base box of Dungeon Bowl. Last post I showed off some doorways from the classic Warhammer Quest and above we have the WHQ minotaur immortalized in bronze. I felt it fitting to have him as the center of a dungeon’s maze, but I was also able to knock out everything else for my Dungeon Bowl set.

Ronin: Sohei Monks

img_3546

In preparation for our Ronin Showdown, the pious mountain philosophers have taken up arms to defend their mountain shrine against a band of rampaging bandits and other various unscrupulous characters, Usually I would be the one to run the bad guys in this scenario, but for some mystical reason it’s my turn to play the morally upright faction with these fine Test of Honor models. Ronin: Mythological Creatures

The core Ronin bluebook is based on historical gameplay, but there is a pdf resource on the Osprey website by the author Craig Woodfield that includes some fantastical creatures from Japanese lore that can optionally be included in games. I picked up a few that looked easy to paint, so went on a little side quest before painting up my buntais.

Blood Bowl: The Human Team

I’ve had the BB2016 release of the human team kicking around assembled and primed since 2018. Recently acquiring some spare hailings and a chainsaw player, I figured it was time to finally paint this lot. Well, we’ve also got a new league season kicking off shortly and that’s always a great motivator in getting a team painted.

Gaslands: The Punks

Punks are a staple of Post Apocalyptic gaming, but it took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with them in my Roswell ’98 setting. I originally planned to just use army greens like the Maniax as a tribute to the Dark Future gang. Ultimately, I opted to employ some inspiration from them, but not copy that gang outright.
