Under the brush: Tinkering with elves

I was feeling unsure about my color scheme. I decided to give the cloak some more layers of black and blue washes and the skirt some layers brown washes to make the colors richer.

I’m not sure the photos convey the differences, which are subtle. I’m still thinking I might try another scheme. I like the color scheme GW has for the Elrond foot and mounted version. But maybe with off-white cloaks.

Under the hobby knife: Rivendell updates

20180122_000005

Just thought I’d give a few updates tonight on my Rivendell elves army for the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game. No progress on the heroes (except that I got some parts for mounted Gil-Galad) but I’ve been working on some troops over the past few weeks.

I’ve scrapped the idea of using silicone to make press molds for now, even returned the silicone to the store. Will just be using good old-fashioned hacking up minis. But if you’ve got an extra armored Glorfindel or Erestor let me know.

The case of the perfect case

20180203_180156.jpg

Check out that lovely chair our neighbor gave us! We have a very trendy interior design style, it’s called “free chic.”

I’ve been trying to figure out the case situation for my minis for a little while now. I’ve been using the deluxe box of the Willy Miniatures Ratmen Team that I unboxed a few months back to get my Blood Bowl stuff around to my league games. And it’s been fine. But I’ve also recently gotten into the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game which requires quite a few more models than Blood Bowl. Not hundreds of models, but dozens. So I need a solution for that too, as well as my BB team.

Under the hobby knife: The troubles with press molds

20171118_083000

As I mentioned in my last post I’ve been working on some conversions for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. Specifically, mounted Gil-Galad, mounted Glorfindel and armored and mounted Lindir. This is an update on my experiments.

Under the hobby knife: Planning conversions for The Hobbit SBG

giphy-5

Last year I was introduced to the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game, formerly the Lord of the Rings, but don’t worry even though it’s called the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game (or SBG for short) it still encompasses factions and miniatures from across both eras of Middle-earth. In fact, the game will be rebranded the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game later this year (but that’s kind of another discussion). Middle-earth is my favorite fantasy setting and has been a big passion for various parts of my life. I had kind of forgotten how much I loved Tolkien’s world until I started getting into the Hobbit SBG. I found myself attracted first to the Rivendell/high elf faction. When I was younger, I loved all things dwarf, but nowadays I’m all about the elves. I’ve always thought Elrond was a cool character and Rivendell seemed like a pretty cool place to chill, plus, who doesn’t love this scene from the intro to Fellowship of the Ring?

December Blood Bowl Releases – Part 4

Well, thanks to the Holiday madness, this post is going up about a week later than I originally planned. Life happens… at least it’s finally getting posted. So far we have looked at the new Elven Union team, all the new pitches, and the Team Card Packs. Now we’re going to take a look at the Inaugural Blood Bowl Almanac. The Almanac is a collection of Blood Bowl rules and information from Death Zone Season One and Two and White Dwarf articles, as well as a few other tidbits. the material may be familiar to anyone who has been keeping up with releases, but the Almanac sure does do a good job of pretty up the presentation.

December Blood Bowl Releases – Part 3

Welcome back to another riveting installment of December 2017 Blood Bowl releases! Last time we took a look at all three pitches that have been released this month. Today we focus on the new Human, Orc, and Elven Union Team Card Packs. These new Team Card Packs are a little bit of a departure from previous Blood Bowl card decks that we have seen. Previous decks have contained only additional Special Play cards, but the new Team Card Packs include quite a bit more.

December Blood Bowl Releases – Part 2

In yesterday’s post, we took a look at the new Elven Union team and the accompanying Elven Union dice set. Today, we break open all three new pitches (OK, so one of them isn’t EXACTLY new) that hit stores shelves in the last few days. Did I really NEED three more pitches for Blood Bowl? Of course not, but it’s not like I WASN’T going to buy pretty much anything that Games Workshop released for Blood Bowl. Well played Games Workshop… well played.

December Blood Bowl Releases – Part 1

For a while now, Games Workshop has been teasing us with images of the Elven Union team, and a new pitch to match. Andy Hoare even said several times that the team would be out by Christmas, so I was not surprised a few weeks ago when I heard that Blood Bowl pre-orders were about to be released. Once I saw the list, however, I was actually surprised by several things. I didn’t expect the Human and Orc team card packs, the hard backed Blood Bowl Almanac, nor the new Goblin pitch. Honestly, I had even forgotten about the reports that the Blood on the Snow pitch would be available again this Holiday Season. Once I saw the full list, I simply sighed and started rounding up things to put on Craigslist and eBay so that I could pay for them… Being a completionist is never easy, or cheap.
