And well…a brand new edition so short after the BB2016 relaunch is pretty big news. So what do our collection of old coaches think about the recently announced new version of the game? Recently, Catalyst Games released two new introductory box-sets for the battle-hardened BattleTech line. Despite gaming longer than BattleTech’s 35 years in existence, I’ve never actually gamed anything in this IP. Not even the ever popular video-games. But here I am…in my mid-40s and it looks like I’m becoming a Mechwarrior.
As Jeff mentioned in his post yesterday, we have together with another buddy, been working on a monthly painting challenge for the month of May. With Memorial Day being the holiday of the month we decided to honor troops everywhere by painting up 10 standard troop types. We’re all currently working on projects in different gaming systems, so an even number like 10 regular troopers seemed like a good fit.
Happy Warhammer Fest weekend everyone! And happy Mothers’ Day to all you moms in the US! Unfortunately living in the US I couldn’t make it to Warhammer Fest (sigh … maybe some day) but it was exciting to wake up this morning and check my social media feeds for updates from the big Games Workshop convention. It felt like being a kid on Christmas morning again! Except with news instead of presents. About stuff I’ll have to spend my own money on instead of gifts from Santa. Enough chit chat, let’s get to the good stuff, Wyrd Stones & Tackle Zones favorite game: Blood Bowl!
The first big reveal, the next team! We just had the Chaos Chosen Doom Lords the other week so I’ll admit I was surprised to see the next team completely revealed and it’s none other than the wicked dark elves!
Just a quick update from last night, an attempt at narrowing down my color scheme for my Rivendell high elves for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game.
Edit: Retouched the cloak tonight. Can you spot a difference?
I was feeling unsure about my color scheme. I decided to give the cloak some more layers of black and blue washes and the skirt some layers brown washes to make the colors richer.
I’m not sure the photos convey the differences, which are subtle. I’m still thinking I might try another scheme. I like the color scheme GW has for the Elrond foot and mounted version. But maybe with off-white cloaks.
Just thought I’d give a few updates tonight on my Rivendell elves army for the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game. No progress on the heroes (except that I got some parts for mounted Gil-Galad) but I’ve been working on some troops over the past few weeks.
I’ve scrapped the idea of using silicone to make press molds for now, even returned the silicone to the store. Will just be using good old-fashioned hacking up minis. But if you’ve got an extra armored Glorfindel or Erestor let me know.

I’ve been trying to figure out the case situation for my minis for a little while now. I’ve been using the deluxe box of the Willy Miniatures Ratmen Team that I unboxed a few months back to get my Blood Bowl stuff around to my league games. And it’s been fine. But I’ve also recently gotten into the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game which requires quite a few more models than Blood Bowl. Not hundreds of models, but dozens. So I need a solution for that too, as well as my BB team.
As I mentioned in my last post I’ve been working on some conversions for the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. Specifically, mounted Gil-Galad, mounted Glorfindel and armored and mounted Lindir. This is an update on my experiments.
