About WSTZ - James

Perhaps the world's slowest painter, a real life Dog of War who enjoys amassing mountains of unpainted models and ruminating over the last time I rolled a '1' to pick up the ball

Nuffle Amorical Football: The Miasma of Debauchery Part 1

IMG_0739

Back in another lifetime it seems I put together a Blood Bowl Team emulating the Cleveland Browns.  The idea got me thinking of continuing the trend of blending Amorical (American) Football teams into the game of Blood Bowl.  I’m not going to lie I probably (most certainly) own enough teams to do a full 32 team league, but alas I don’t paint fast enough to have enough lifetime to get to that goal.  The original goal was to plow through the AFC North Division first, but instead I drifted over to the AFC East and put together a lovely Chaos Chosen team.  Continue reading

Rise From Your Grave: Resurrecting an Old Classic

img_4085-1

I have a long history of incomplete hobby projects.  My usual method of operation is getting excited to start a project, buy all the models to make it happen, start the hobby part of the project, add to the project to make it larger than the original scope, get burned out on the project, and then move on to the next project with the original unfinished. With Blood Bowl being my main hobby project, it’s no surprise that almost half of my teams are incomplete to one level or another.  With the prospects of a retro Blood Bowl event in 2024, I figured now was the time to wrap up my longest unfinished project.

Ronin: Sohei Monks

img_3546

In preparation for our Ronin Showdown, the pious mountain philosophers have taken up arms to defend their mountain shrine against a band of rampaging bandits and other various unscrupulous characters, Usually I would be the one to run the bad guys in this scenario, but for some mystical reason it’s my turn to play the morally upright faction with these fine Test of Honor models. The Court of the King in Yellow – Warcry

Earlier in the year when I was airbrushing everything that wasn’t nailed down, I had a chance to blow through my Cypher Lords warband from the Warhammer Age of Sigmar game Warcry. These truly weird chaos cultish warband really pushed the idea of what a chaos twisted band of followers could look like. From the outside they could easily pass as a mystical band of martial artists with a fancy for elaborate headgear. Of all the warbands released the look of this warband I found the most intriguing. With their true allegiance in disguise, it leaves the age-old fear of what makes chaos the scariest, the Enemy Within! Brainstorming the idea was the easy part, next was to get that idea a color scheme.

Warcry: Mordheim Beastmen Join the Herd and Head to the Varanspire

Once again I decided to reinvigorate some life into my Mordheim collection and selected my Beastman Warband to leave the Empire in Flames of the world that was, and to join the new hotness of Warcry! Continue reading

Warcry: Turning Mordheim Models into Roaming Beasts

img_2984

Logic would suggest that a person should start with the basics of a game before they start adding extras into the mix.  Being a less than speedy painter I can never keep up with the Games Workshop production line of new products.  This typically results in me having making a hodgepodge collection as I move in and out of the collection stream.  This time around instead of starting with the core released box set of the game I have instead gone with roaming beasts that are not even part of the core rules.

Warhammer Underworlds Terrain: 200 Skulls Too Many

img_3022

As with Mr. White, I am never content to have a project be finished.  Although I’m not 100% on the newer rules for terrain in Underworlds, for the core boards in Shadespire there are some blocking terrain pieces.  While not required I feel that having just some border lines on the hexes is enough to truly represent the terrain.  I’m not the only one thinking that because there are people out there making terrain purposely made for the boards. Shadespire: Eyes of the Nine

I have been a fan of the models produced for Shadespire  since they where first released.  While I will always prefer multi-pose models over single pose, credit must be given to Games Workshop with the quality of their plastic models.  They are clearly years ahead of their competitors and I personally believe that their line of Shadespire and the follow on edition models are some of the best.  While the idea of a quasi-collectable card game is not normally in my wheelhouse, I just couldn’t resist the temptation of the models to give them a try.  Using my new airbrush toy, the Eyes of the Nine where the first to go for a full spin. Taking the Plunge into the World of Airbrushing: Part 3

img_0326

With no excuses left it was time to take the plunge into airbrushing.  I combed YouTube looking for how-to videos and decided to follow a few techniques in my application.  As with most videos on the topic, once I finally got my feet wet and started to use the airbrush I really wished I had started using it sooner! Taking the Plunge into the World of Airbrushing, Part 2

img_0256My previous article on airbrushing was more in an attempt to humorously illustrate how I hid the cost of airbrushing and added a bulky new hobby toy into my work area without getting too many probing questions.  This week I’ll go over the breakdown of the tools I actually picked up to make my skin tone project a reality.  Continue reading
