Please excuse the terrible pun in the headline, I originally intended this to be a bonus unboxing to my treeman post, but that post started to get a little long so I decided to make this a separate one. I went to pick up the treeman I preordered on Black Friday and since the store was having a little sale I decided to browse around. You may recall I previously made an underworld denizens team, and to be honest I was really happy with the way it turned out, even though I found painting the pink to be a total chore. But playing them in my local league wasn’t so fun so I sold them off. When the official underworld denizens box came out this spring my curiosity got piqued again. How would the addition of a gutter runner change the team? And then my curiosity got piqued even more when the Blood Bowl Second Season rulebook got leaked over the summer. Additional snotlings that you can sneak onto the pitch? A choice of troll or rat ogre? I’ve also been playing underworld in a league online with Jeff, James and some other friends, which has also added fuel to the fire.Continue reading
I put the finishing touches on my underworld denizens team this weekend by putting the number transfers on the team. To celebrate I took some new pics, so here’s a massive photo dump (after the break)!
Another month has come and gone and with it another paint challenge. As a reminder, September’s painting challenge was as follows:
September got its name from being the 7th month of the original Roman calendar. January and February were added later making it 9th.
These are the official miniatures North Star Miniatures sells for Dracula’s America, but they are really licensed from Artizan Miniatures. While the miniatures are pretty simple as far as details go, the sculpts really impressed me and I enjoyed painting them quite a lot.
As an extra two I painted up the two werewolves while I was at it. I can’t count them as my surprise two because they go with the 7 painted.
So what were my surprise inclusions? How about some mutated goblins for my underworld Blood Bowl team. Remember them?
Jeff also finished the challenge. His first completed mini was for a special event in the Age of Sigmar campaign he’s participating in. The event featured a jousting game, so you know he couldn’t resist whipping up something for his Stormcast wannabes Flesh Eater Courts army.
Not satisfied with one big guy, Jeff also painted up a big guy for his ork Blood Bowl team. Again another conversion, this time on the controversial troll from Games Workshop. I think Jeff did a great job modifying the questionable pose of the GW model.
And for his seven, Jeff got back to the grindstone and ground out seven more genestealers for Space Hulk. There are two more lurking in the background (aren’t there always? Those blip counters can be nasty … ) but Jeff had completed those previously.
And what about Jason? Well unfortunately life got the best of Jason and he couldn’t meet the deadline, coughing up the first $5 into the pot for failing to make the deadline.
Next up is October’s theme …
Things That Go Bump in the Night!
As I mentioned in my last Under the Brush post, the challenge for June was to paint 11 miniatures in honor of Jason’s birthday on June 11. Eleven just happens to be the starting number of a Blood Bowl team and I just so happened to be preparing a new team for my league’s summer season, so it was almost as if the stars aligned.
Read on to see our results.
It’s hobby update time! I just realized I hadn’t shared anything about what I’m working on for our June Turn It Up to 11 miniatures painting challenge. Eleven miniatures that need to be painted … that coincidentally aligns with the starting roster for a Blood Bowl team. And it just so happens I’m starting up a new team for our league’s summer season. Some guys in the league were talking about playing goblins and vampires, so I decided to step off the beaten path and go for something a little different for me. Underworld denizens!
That’s right… After two false starts, the first two official neoprene for Blood Bowl are finally here. First we had an advertisement in an issue of White Dwarf stating that at the time of the release of the issue, the Reikland Reavers neoprene pitch would be already available for order, only to find no pitch available for order, and the advert removed from the digital edition of White Dwarf. Then, months later, we had the Gouged Eye pitch that actually went up for pre-order, only to have all open orders cancelled a week later.
In both cases, Games Workshop would officially cite quality control issues as the reason the pitches got pulled. Whatever the issues were, they have apparently been resolved because not only did both pitches go on pre-order again, both pitches were even delivered to my doorstep today! Oh… and I also received the Underworld Denizens Coins & Tokens pack…
