About WSTZ - James

Perhaps the world's slowest painter, a real life Dog of War who enjoys amassing mountains of unpainted models and ruminating over the last time I rolled a '1' to pick up the ball

Homemade Star Players: Harry Badsaw

Greenskins_Wurrzag

I haven’t regularly used Star Players in league or tournament play in a very long time.  Back in the original 3rd edition rules Star Players where much cheaper than they currently are so it was quite common to see them in play.  When I attended the first Blood Bowl Tournament at GW Nottingham it was a staple to see all the big names on just about every team at the tournament.  In fact my Chaos Dwarf team rocked Hthark The Unstoppable through it’s first several tournaments.  I’m pretty sure every Undead team I played against had Count Luthor and every human team had Griff.  They were so cheap it would have been ridiculous not to use them.  A few iterations of rules later and taking those guys now is a huge commitment so its rare to see such big names on the field.  Some tournaments though have adopted homemade heroes which has given me the opportunity to create some of my own Blood Bowl Stars.  Continue reading

Under the Brush: The Cleavedhead Barrows Pt. 3

ClevelandBrownsElf

Believe it or not this project yet lives!  Ironic that a project involving the undead refuses to die.  Despite the inconvenience of having to put my life on hold for a year, I’m now back home and still trying to get this team finished.  It’s been a bit of a rough start as I was more than certainly a bit rusty with the old paint brush.  Still, despite a bit of squeaky joints I made some noticeable progress.

Off the Beaten Pitch: Goblin Guild’s Grim Butchers Chaos Dwarf Team Unboxing and Review

butcher1

If you recall, I mentioned how rough the summer was on my wallet when it came to the amount of new Blood Bowl teams that 3rd-party manufacturers were producing.  In total I added another seven teams through Kickstarter last year and the rewards of that folly adventure have begun to trickle in.  The first to arrive only slightly behind schedule is a new take on the men with hats, the Grim Butchers from Goblin Guild.

Back Home and Back to Work

afghan

My adventures in darkest Afghanistan have come to an end and it is time for me to get back to actually having some hobby time.  Logistically while I’m overseas my hobby dreams come to a close.  Having enough space to even setup a paint station is never a guarantee and if there is most likely Uncle Same keeps you busy to where there isn’t the time to get anything done.  Despite these huge roadblocks there are a few nice benefits of spending nine months overseas….

Off the Beaten Pitch: Fanath Chaos Chosen Team Review

Fanath Chaos Choen Team

I’ve been aware of Fanath Arts for some time in the 3rd party Blood Bowl market.  While I had looked before at picking up their High Elf team I never pulled the trigger on it.  It was a decent design but it didn’t capture my full attention.  Well times have changed!  When Fanath offered a Chaos Chosen team on Indiegogo this past summer it grabbed my attention despite having just recently purchased a Chosen team months before.  So what was it that made me spend money on a second team of the same variety?

Kickstarter Round Up: The month of May assaults my wallet, leaves no prisoners!

Kickstarter-featured_image

Being stuck overseas and in austere environments means I am not able to accomplish much hobby work.  Thankfully though, the internet enables me to stay connected to all the nice new minis in the works and the generous tax break of being in a combat zone means I’ve got plenty of greenbacks piling up.  What better outlet to unclutter my wallet than a stroll through the Fantasy Football market on Kickstarter.  Two projects have jumped out and waylaid my savings, promising me piles of models to rummage through when I finally come home. Doom Lords, Star Players Card Pack, and Chaos Themed Dice Unboxing!

Well, I guess it’s been quiet a while since my last post. I didn’t really intend for that to happen, but I guess that’s the way it goes sometimes. Life can be interesting. With that being said, Games Workshop has finally given us some new Blood Bowl releases, and I’m back to give you all another unboxing.

Now, you might notice right away that this post looks a lot different than my normal unboxing posts… Well, I decided that I wanted to try something a little different. I’ve been wanting to transition to video format for a while, and even toyed with a few video AND written posts last year. Well, this time I have decided to attempt a video only unboxing. I’m fairly new to the YouTube scene, so I hope you’ll bare with me. I hope that this will be the primary format of my unboxing moving forward, so let me know what you think in the comments below, or in the comments section on the YouTube page!

Blood Bowl – More Guts, More Glory!

One day last year I was doing my usual daily jaunt through the interwebs, and I came across an announcement for a new Blood Bowl comic book from Titan Comics called Blood Bowl More Guts, More Glory! I was interested, but since I’m not a huge comic book fan, I promptly forgot all about. Then about a week ago, the memory of the announcement randomly popped into my head. I jumped onto Amazon, found that there was now a trade paperback collection of all 4 issues, and promptly made an order.
