Halflings were always my preferred Dungeons and Dragons race when I was a a youth, but I never felt drawn to play them in Blood Bowl. I guess I was never a fan of all the kitchenware on their models. I can get behind them being a joke team, but I’d still like them to look like a…well…sports team.
At this point, I’ve played lots of Blitz Bowl. However, I’ve played very little with the actual humans and orcs. Being the standard default teams in every edition of Blood Bowl, I’ve painted plenty so I’ve sort of drug my feet on getting their BzB versions done. My minis rule is basically ‘Play it Painted’, so these teams have sat in their locker rooms for awhile. Now, they’re ready for the pitch.
Weird Stones & Tackle Zones was founded by Blood Bowl enthusiasts. Even though we’ve drifted back and forth through other titles, big BB news still gets us talking. And well…a brand new edition so short after the BB2016 relaunch is pretty big news. So what do our collection of old coaches think about the recently announced new version of the game? In 30 years of being involved with Blood Bowl…I’ve never run a Chaos team. Chaos generally isn’t a big faction of mine and the Khorne flavor of the generic Chaos team never appealed. I’m actually more of a Tzeentch or Nurgle gamer if it came to it, but Chaos in general traditionally doesn’t do anything for me. It’s ironic then that I’ve painted so much of it the past few years…
In the early 00’s, I managed an Undead BB team to quite a bit of success. Winning tournaments with them in Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas. Almost 20 years later…I’m bringing the franchise to Blitz Bowl.
I finally got around to completing all of the necessary terrain features for three Blitz Bowl boards as well as all of my team tokens.
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, I had an early summer weekend of gaming set aside for friends. One of the events was going to be a Blitz Bowl tournament. When I run fantasy sport games, such as Blood Bowl and DreadBall, I like to include a ‘relegation’ table of sorts. This is a table with its own set of zany rules where the combined lowest ranked teams play for a given week. This adds a bit of the wild flavor you read about in the fluff of these games while making the bottom table matches more interesting than just a losers field. Here are the three types of matches that were to be played on the ‘Pub Table’.
One of the main things I like to be able to do when getting into a game is be able to provide all the bits necessary to host a few tables. By host I don’t mean to just have the bits available required to play, but to have tables that can immerse the players into the setting as much as possible. A game like Warhammer Underworlds doesn’t have a lot of the 3D features you see in the more traditional minis games as it’s pretty much a board game. However…there are blocked hexes and these can provide that little bit of dressing to represent models slinking about the ruins of the Mirrored City.
I recently knocked out three Order warbands for Warhammer Underworlds. The Farstriders, The Condemnors and The Chosen Axes. All three were a little on hold until I could replenish my green static grass supply. The grass came in, so the minis are done. Just in time to help build a little momentum here at the beginning of the New Year.
