Weird Stones & Tackle Zones was founded by Blood Bowl enthusiasts. Even though we’ve drifted back and forth through other titles, big BB news still gets us talking. And well…a brand new edition so short after the BB2016 relaunch is pretty big news. So what do our collection of old coaches think about the recently announced new version of the game? Step into our locker room…

Tutorial: Basing Warcry

WSTZ James asked how I did the bases for my Splintered Fang, so I thought I’d write up a tutorial for you all in case you want to follow along at home. It’s rather simple.
Battle of Pelennor Fields Price Leak

Finally the price speculation can end! And we know the drop date!
Just saw this from a guy who works for the FLGS I usually game at. Pre-orders for the new Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game stuff. I don’t think the entire LotR/Hobbit line are going off web exclusive, but at least these items will be.
Battle of Pelennor Fields Boxed Game: $150 USD
Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game Rules Manual: $60 USD
Armies of the Lord of the Rings Sourcebook: $60 USD
Warriors of Minas Tirith (24-model box): $40 USD
Knights of Minas tirith: $32 USD
Haradrim Raiders: $32 USD
War Mumak of Harad: $100 USD
Mordor/Isengard Troll: $40 USD
Looks like a good value for the box set, great value for infantry, but cavalry are going up in price a bit and the Mordor Troll and Mumak adjusted probably just to create even prices.

June “Turn It Up To 11” Painting Challenge Results

As I mentioned in my last Under the Brush post, the challenge for June was to paint 11 miniatures in honor of Jason’s birthday on June 11. Eleven just happens to be the starting number of a Blood Bowl team and I just so happened to be preparing a new team for my league’s summer season, so it was almost as if the stars aligned.
Read on to see our results.
Under the Brush: Rethinking some Rivendell conversions

Last week a package arrived for me full of minis goodness. Ignoring the Spike! Journal, White Dwarfs (White Dwarves) and Shadespire stuff (not completely though, it’s a great game you should try out) you’ll notice Glorfindel and a box of Knights of Rivendell. Finally I have all the parts I need for all the options of a high elves force for Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. Now I just need to put it all together (and paint it) but it has me rethinking my plans a little.
Warhammer Live Recap 5.31.2018

I’d like to introduce a new feature on Wyrd Stones & Tackle Zones, the Warhammer Live Recap! I know not everyone has time to tune in to the free Warhammer Live streams or Twitch accounts to go back and watch after it airs, so I thought you all might enjoy a little recap of the interviews. I’ll be focusing on the streams where the focus is on Specialist Games or from the Middle-Earth team as those are what I’m particularly interested in. As I don’t play AoS or 40k I’m afraid my knowledge is rather limited to what’s going on so I’m not sure my recaps would be as beneficial.
To the recap!
Under the brush: Memorial May elves

As Jeff mentioned in his post yesterday, we have together with another buddy, been working on a monthly painting challenge for the month of May. With Memorial Day being the holiday of the month we decided to honor troops everywhere by painting up 10 standard troop types. We’re all currently working on projects in different gaming systems, so an even number like 10 regular troopers seemed like a good fit.
Age of Sigmar – Ghoul Patrol
I took part in a ‘Painting Challenge’ this month and used the opportunity to finish out the Crypt Ghouls for my ‘Chamber of the Bloodied Dawn’ Flesh Eater Courts army. Here are my take away thoughts painting these ghoulies out to a 1000pt army.
Shadespire Card Sleeves: A Comparison
Doom Lords, Star Players Card Pack, and Chaos Themed Dice Unboxing!
Well, I guess it’s been quiet a while since my last post. I didn’t really intend for that to happen, but I guess that’s the way it goes sometimes. Life can be interesting. With that being said, Games Workshop has finally given us some new Blood Bowl releases, and I’m back to give you all another unboxing.
Now, you might notice right away that this post looks a lot different than my normal unboxing posts… Well, I decided that I wanted to try something a little different. I’ve been wanting to transition to video format for a while, and even toyed with a few video AND written posts last year. Well, this time I have decided to attempt a video only unboxing. I’m fairly new to the YouTube scene, so I hope you’ll bare with me. I hope that this will be the primary format of my unboxing moving forward, so let me know what you think in the comments below, or in the comments section on the YouTube page!
