Check out that lovely chair our neighbor gave us! We have a very trendy interior design style, it’s called “free chic.”

I’ve been trying to figure out the case situation for my minis for a little while now. I’ve been using the deluxe box of the Willy Miniatures Ratmen Team that I unboxed a few months back to get my Blood Bowl stuff around to my league games. And it’s been fine. But I’ve also recently gotten into the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game which requires quite a few more models than Blood Bowl. Not hundreds of models, but dozens. So I need a solution for that too, as well as my BB team.

Under the hobby knife: Planning conversions for The Hobbit SBG

Last year I was introduced to the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game, formerly the Lord of the Rings, but don’t worry even though it’s called the Hobbit Strategy Battle Game (or SBG for short) it still encompasses factions and miniatures from across both eras of Middle-earth. In fact, the game will be rebranded the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game later this year (but that’s kind of another discussion). Middle-earth is my favorite fantasy setting and has been a big passion for various parts of my life. I had kind of forgotten how much I loved Tolkien’s world until I started getting into the Hobbit SBG. I found myself attracted first to the Rivendell/high elf faction. When I was younger, I loved all things dwarf, but nowadays I’m all about the elves. I’ve always thought Elrond was a cool character and Rivendell seemed like a pretty cool place to chill, plus, who doesn’t love this scene from the intro to Fellowship of the Ring?

There is no denying that the Games Workshop Vampire team is one of the most iconic of all the teams they have produced.  One also can’t disagree with the statement that the style of Blood Bowl has been evolving over the years and alas, the teams of old have been coming up, well, short.  So what does a coach do when he finds that his classic team of yore now looks like a high school team lining up against the New York Giants?  As it turns out Willy Miniatures has a solution.

Under the Brush: Chaos Renegades update

I’ve been working on painting up my Chaos Renegades team off and on over the past couple of months and I’m slowly reaching the finish line. For the color choice I wanted some Tzeentch-y as he’s my favorite of the chaos gods (although I was really tempted by the 5th god Malaal but figured the reference was too obscure). I wanted to avoid yellow and blue as I didn’t want the team to look like the Reikland Reavers color scheme, but I did end up going with a pale gold, blue and turquoise look. I hope the Changer of Ways approves.

Warhammer Shadespire – Terrain

We still have a large back catalog of proper minis to paint, so in the meantime, we’ve opted to go back about 15 years for a product that fits our current gaming needs.

Sneak Peek: Gore Ball Ogre

Not too long ago we mentioned the Kickstarter launch of the Gore Ball Ogre team on the site.  The Kickstater from Word Forge Games offered up a rather impressive collection of single piece resin cast models and as the campaign progressed it grew to include a large variety of greenskins too.  I was impressed with the designs of the ogres offering a variety of different poses and looks, but having already a full ogre team on standby I couldn’t pull the trigger on the full set.  Yet the allure of the new was too much, and I could not resist the hockey mask look and went ahead and ordered one.  Now Mike is working on a full review of the entire set, but as he’s recovering from the installation of his cyber-leg I’m given a chance to offer my quick opinion of my newest recruit.

A Tale of Tables

There’s one thing that every tabletop gamer would love as a gift, a fancy gaming table. It’s not usually something you’d probably think is attainable, but every once in a while, the gaming gods will smile on you. That’s what I thought had happened last Christmas, but it was just the start of a much bigger experience.

My roommate, Scott, and I host Both Down, a Blood Bowl podcast. We’ve been friends for a long time and after his divorce, I ended up moving in. Since then we’ve played many games of Blood Bowl as well as many, many, many other games on his rickety dining table. It was never horrible, but more than once, the discussion popped up about how a new/better table would be more conducive to better playing experiences.
