Off the Beaten Pitch: Vortice Undead/Necro Team Review

BjmpDkzCUAAjT8k

Over the years my collection of Blood Bowl teams has waxed and waned in direct correlation to my time available to game and my economic standing.  Despite the fluctuations the one team I never pulled the trigger on was the Undead team.  I’ve always liked the idea of an Undead team ever since I read about the Champions of Death and their coach Tomolandry the Undying.  Despite the interest in the team I was never truly satisfied with the team options out there.  GWs Undead had good components but the Zombies where weakly done and I also felt like the Ghouls looked like they were in need of a sports bra.  What I longed for was an Undead team that had a consistent sports team look that still offered great details and a lot of character.

A Tale of Blood Bowl, Frogs, and a Guy Named J_Bone

Once upon a time, there was a guy on the interwebs named J_Bone. J_Bone liked a website called Talk Fantasy Football. One day, he had an idea to produce a line of miniatures for an under-served Blood Bowl team… Slann. The Slann team was added to the game post 3rd through 5th edition, after Games Workshop had stopped supporting the game. As a result, there were never any official Slann Blood Bowl minis. Over the years, a couple of third party companies released some nice Slann teams, but J_Bone decided he wanted a team sculpted by one of the best independent sculptors on the Blood Bowl scene, Pedro Ramos.

Under the Brush: Ep 2

20170818_001033

My turn for Under the Brush! Well, more like Under the Exacto/Snips as these guys haven’t even been primed yet. OK, technically a few of them were primed before I started working on them. This bunch of brutes is my Chaos Renegades (formerly known as Chaos Pact) team the Silver Tower Denizens. See what I did there? Tying together two of Games Workshop’s recent boxed games … their season is over, but I plan on playing them again next season, hopefully I can get them painted up by then as we’re in something of a break. Read on for more pics!

Minotaur Pricing Confirmed

mug

Via War of Sigmar, Forge World has announced what will be available at the Forge World Open Day. The minotaur will be 20 GBP and it will be Forge World, not a GW plastic release. Also the token packs for Chaos Renegades and Underworld Denizens will be 8 BGP each. I was hoping the two packs would be sold together, but that doesn’t look the case. Kind of seems like a lot of money for just a couple of tokens …

Block Mania – Mobs, Kelggs, and Fatties… Oh My!

pic52953

When James texted me a couple of nights ago and asked me if I wanted to have a game night, my answer was a simple, “always!” When he asked me what I wanted to play, I decided to suggest a game that we haven’t played in a LONG time. I suggested the 1987 Games Workshop boardgame, Block Mania. As the box says in the lower left hand corner, Block Mania is, “a 2000 AD Judge Dredd Boardgame.” Block Mania is a skirmish game between rival housing blocks of Mega-City 1, fighting to destroy their neighbor’s block.

The Art of Fantasy Football by P. Ramos – Kickstarter

PRamos

I’ve always theorized that crowd funding attacks in waves.  Just when you swear off pledging money for a product that hopefully arrives in the distant future, your eyeballs are assailed with ripe new products looking to syphon your hard earned paycheck.  Just last year I was loudly proclaiming my independence from the crowd funding racket.  Alas, starting with Iron Golems it appears that the cycle has begun anew!   This time around instead of another potential mound of unpainted models, we have an offering that appeals to the spirit of Fantasy Football and maybe even lets the wallet off a bit easy this time.

Let’s make a Pact: New Willy Miniatures Kickstarter

6277be2345a84fa91e5beac857116532_original

My local Blood Bowl league is getting a bit of a reboot in its premiere season. This gives me a chance to ditch my crippled high elves in favor of something else. After taking a beating with the elves, I must admit I’m an elf failure, unable to score in four games, but I digress, I was feeling a bit dejected. I could fall back on my tried and true humans but wasn’t really feeling it or any other teams, really. Until I latched on to the idea of Chaos Pact or Chaos Renegades as Games Workshop calls them in the latest edition of Blood Bowl.
